동물보호소에서 구조된 동물들의 특성에 대한 많은 오해들이 있습니다. 보호소에 들어 온 동물들에게 오랫동안 붙여지는 오명은..그들이 통상 "온전한 개체가 아니라는 것"입니다.

오해 : 보호소 동물들은 건강이 좋지 않다. 그렇지 않았다면(좋았다면) 그들의 오너들은 그 처럼 동물을 유기하지 않았을 것이다...?

무책임한 오너가 불임수술을 안해줘서 많은 수의 개체들이 그냥 버려지는 현상이거나
오너가 동물을 학대해서 당국이 그런 학대로 부터 그 동물을 벗어나게 해 주려고
애시당초 동물을 키울때 그에 수반되는 여러가지 책임들(예. 온전히 돌보는 것)에 대해서 오너가 그리 심각하게 고려하지 않았거나..예를들어 동물을 키우는 것을 금지한 아파트 규정을 고려하지 않고 동물을 들여와 제지를 당해 유기하는 몰지각한 오너.

오해 : 오랫동안 오너로 부터 사랑을 못 받고 학대당한 동물들은 절대 정상적인 동물로 돌아올수 없다?

상기 환경에 처했던 대부분의 동물들은 적당한 관찰과 보호 아래 온전히 정상적인 안정을 찾았음. 실제로 많은 수의 동물들은 그런 학대로 부터 구출된 것에 대해 행복해 하고 있으며 과거 그런 아픔을 가진 동물들은 정상적인 환경에서 자라 온 동물들 보다 주인에 더 헌신적이고 충성하는 결과를 가져왔습니다.

오해 : 유기동물은 키우면 무슨 일이 일어날 지 모른다..?

비록 동물보호소로 부터 입양된 동물들의 그 후 병력이나 성질등을 체계적으로 추적하지 않았지만 순종의 혈통 좋은 동물을 고려하지 않는다면 통상 애완 샵에서 구매하는 동물들과 별반 다르지 않습니다.

오해 : 유기된 보호소 출신 동물들은 건강하지 않다?

일부 동물들이 병력이 문제가 될 수 있겠지만 대부분의 동물들은 건강하고 따뜻한 관리만 해 주면 됩니다. 설사 문제가 있는 동물이라 하더라도 보호소로 부터 그 질병에 대한 정확한 진단을 얻을 수 있습니다. 왜냐하면 보호소는 단순히 돈을 위해 존재하는 사육사나 애완샵 보다 진정 동물을 케어하는 마음이 강하니까요.
더우기 보호소 동물은 올무에 묶여 사회성이 부족하고 비위생적인 환경으로 보다 짧은 삶을 마감하는 애완 샵의 동물들보다 훨씬 더 좋은 환경과 대우로 지니니까요.
